What IP rating do I need outdoors?
IP44 covers splashing and suits a protected position such as under an eave or a covered entry. IP65 is sealed against water jets and is what you want on an exposed wall, a fence, or anywhere taking real weather. When in doubt outdoors, go up a rating rather than down.
What is the difference between an up-down light and a bunker light?
An up-down throws two beams along the wall and is a decorative choice for facades and entries. A bunker is a sealed utility fitting that puts light on the ground nearby — driveways, side paths, service areas. Very different jobs.
Which finishes survive near the coast?
316 marine-grade stainless steel is the honest answer within a few kilometres of surf. Powder-coated aluminium does well further back. Standard steel and 304 stainless will show corrosion within a season or two in salt air, and finish corrosion is generally excluded from warranty.
Are sensor exterior lights worth fitting?
For security and for carrying shopping to the door, yes. Look at the detection angle and range against the area you actually want covered, and check whether the sensor can be overridden to stay on — you will want that when working outside after dark.
