How do I know which globe base I need?

Take the old globe with you, or photograph the base. The common Australian fittings are E27 (large screw), E14 (small screw), B22 (large bayonet, two pins) and B15 (small bayonet), plus GU10 for spotlights and MR16 for low-voltage downlights. Screw and bayonet are not interchangeable.

How many lumens replace my old incandescent globe?

Roughly: a 40W incandescent is about 450 lumens, 60W about 800, and 100W about 1,600. Buy on lumens and ignore the LED wattage — an 8W LED and a 10W LED can put out very different amounts of light.

What colour temperature should I choose?

2700–3000K is warm, and suits living areas and bedrooms. 4000K is neutral and works in kitchens, bathrooms and laundries. 5000K and above is cool and rarely right in a home — it belongs in garages, workshops and commercial spaces. Mixing temperatures in one room reads as a mistake.

Are all LED globes dimmable?

No, and a non-dimmable globe on a dimmer will flicker, buzz, or fail early. Check the packaging or product page, and pair dimmable globes with a trailing-edge LED dimmer.

What is a filament LED globe?

An LED built to look like an old carbon filament lamp, with visible strips inside clear glass. They suit exposed pendants and open fittings where the globe is part of the look, and are usually warm and low output rather than bright.
