Choosing a wall fan
When does a wall fan make more sense than a ceiling fan?
When there is no ceiling to mount to, when the ceiling is too low to clear a fan safely, or when you need directed air across a working area rather than general circulation — garages, workshops, gyms and covered outdoor areas.
Do wall fans oscillate?
Most do, and it is worth having: a fixed wall fan cools a narrow path, while an oscillating head covers a much wider arc. Oscillation can normally be switched off when you want the air pointed at one spot.
Can a wall fan be used outdoors?
Only if it is rated for it. A covered alfresco or patio needs a fan with an appropriate IP rating and a sealed motor. An indoor wall fan in that position will fail, and the failure will not be covered.
