What makes a ceiling fan smart?
Wi-Fi built into the fan module, so it appears in a phone app and can be controlled from anywhere, put on a schedule, or triggered by temperature. The supplied remote keeps working alongside it.
Do I need a hub or bridge?
Not for the Wi-Fi models we stock — they join your home network directly. That is a genuine advantage over Zigbee or Z-Wave fittings, which need a hub before they will do anything.
Do smart fans work with Google Home and Amazon Alexa?
Most do, once the fan is set up in its own app and that account is linked. Voice control then covers on and off, speed, and the light. Check the product page for the specific model rather than assuming across a range.
Why will my smart fan not connect to Wi-Fi?
Almost always the frequency band. Smart fan modules join 2.4GHz networks, not 5GHz, and many modern routers publish both under one name. Temporarily separating the bands, or pointing your phone at the 2.4GHz network during setup, resolves most failures.
What happens if the internet goes down?
The remote and any wall control keep working — they talk to the fan directly. You lose app control, scheduling and voice until the connection returns.
